bootcamp partition no longer mountable

I was trying to get OSX to be able to read the 2 Windows partitions( named System and Data repectively). Maybe due to installations of Paragon and Tuxera, now the System partition no longer mountable in OS X, the Data partition is still accessible.

I have read LonerT's instructions to other similar problems, and here are the results of those routine checks:

is it normal that fdisk has only 1 line? should have at least 4 here? Testdisk can't print out filenames, reporting something is damaged...

Which of the two partition is a bootable W8.1? I assume System is. What is the year/model of your Mac?

You seem to have an EFI Boot installation of W8.1 since you reference winload.efi. Is that correct?

Can you disable Paragon and test?

Please also see https://kb.paragon-software.com/article/204 and this part...

It should be noted that the NTFS for Mac boot selector doesn’t work for Boot Camp configurations using a pure GPT disk layout instead of hybrid GPT. This applies to Macbook Airs from mid-2013 and later, and Macbook Pros and Mac Pros released in late 2013 and beyond. On those systems, you need to use the Option boot selector for booting into Windows, unless it’s installed to a pure MBR disk.

You have a pure GPT disk as the Fdisk output shows.

This link - Re: Can't resize Macintosh HD partition - will let you mount the EFI partition (disk0s1) and check for a Microsoft directory.

Sep 4, 2016 8:20 PM in response to Frank-APP

Use F8 and boot to Safe Mode with Command Prompt. You will need to run sfc (System File Checker). Please also see

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833

You will need to use syntax similar to

sfc /scannow /offbootdir=d:\ /offwindir=d:\windows

The /offbootdir= option specifies the drive letter, while the /offwindir=option specifies the Windows path, again including the drive letter.

Choose offbootdir and offwindir by checking diskpart and verifying your drive letters.

paragon NTFS and Texura NTFS have been uninstalled immediately after this problem detected.

following the instructions from the other thread I did the following:

>sudo mkdir -p /Volumes/EFI

>sudo mount -t msdos /dev/disk0s4 /Volumes/EFI

got error message from Terminal :

"mount_msdos: /dev/disk0s4 on /Volumes/EFI: Invalid argument"

and from system.log:

"kernel[0]: msdosfs_mount: invalid total sectors (0)"

the System partition seems to be in bad condition, it is grayed out in the disk utility as posted above.

I didn't know what makes the System and Data partition reappeared in disk utility window... at the beginning none show up, only one MAC drive is listed, also in diskutil list report at the beginning of this post, you can see disk0s4 has "Untitled" rather than "System", as of now, Data partition works just as normal.

These can corrupt files due to conflict between OS X and third-party drivers. Uninstalling will not undo the damage already caused.

You need to mount disk0s1, not disk0s4. We need to check the EFI partition for a Microsoft directory.

You will need to run chkdsk on your C: drive. If that does not correct the problem, then SFC is needed. Manual modifications to disk0s4 or disk0s5 can make things worse. Disk0s4 should only be manipulated using SFC and chkdsk and supported commands. Do not use any OS X utilities to manipulate either partition.

none of combo works 😟 I think it is due to problems with the partition, and the same problem causes the System partition not shown in Finder.

At the beginning of this problem, the two NTFS partition were not even shown in "disk utility", but somehow they showed up later. Now, the System partition is in gray, with 0KB available, and not mountable.
